It can be possible that loose hair might get trapped in the crease of you buttocks, and then poke the skin, causing an opening that can lead to an infection.

When a pressure on the butt area from a hair follicle causes irritation. It can be caused by horseback riding or cycling.

Symptoms

Symptoms of pilonidal cyst can be different and here is on what you need to pay attention:

  • A swollen area
  • Reddening of the skin
  • Pus, or blood leaking from an opening in the skin
  • A bad smell coming from the pus
  • Pain

Treatment

If you notice some of these symptoms, then you need to go to the doctor. He will probably say you need to drain the cyst, and that can be done right in the office, along with the prescription of antibiotics.

If the cyst became severe, you will need a surgery to treat it. It will probably take you a month to recover.

But, if you have a cyst that doesn’t require any treatment or doesn’t have any symptoms, then you need to keep the area dry and clean and try not to sit on any hard surfaces for long period of time.
