People who don’t like working early in the morning are going to read the great news because science backed them – getting up early and starting work before 10 o’clock is bad for us.
Our body clock is called Circadian Rhythm and it is a pre-programmed cycle that regulates brain activity, hormone production, energy levels, and even perception the time. So, when you start the work before 10 am, you are torturing yourself, because you are interfering with your body clock.
Dr. Paul Kelley, a leading researcher at Oxford University stated: “We cannot change our 24-hour rhythms. You cannot learn to get up at a certain time…your liver and your heart have different patterns and you’re asking them to shift two or three hours.”
Eight hours working days are a product of the maximization of 24/7 factory productivity and not the product of the natural human body clock. According to the Dr. Paul Kelly said that this kind of program lead to the sleep deprived society.
Dr. Paul Kelly suggested that it is better to move start time in schools in Britain from 8.30 am to 10 am. He chose a school tested this theory. After some time, students improved their grades and attendance levels had also improved along with the whole productivity of the school.
There is a great opportunity to improve our society with this idea. We would get productive, focused, happy and useful people, instead of intoxicated, overworked zombies. The great thing is that some companies are already using this system, but the bad news that that is just a small number of companies.
