If you want to have a healthy heart and long life, you need to take care of your arteries. They are actually blood vessels that deliver blood with oxygen from the heart to tissues in your body.
In every artery is a muscular tube lined with smooth tissue and each tube has three layers, the intima, media, and adventitia. The largest artery in our body is the aorta, and it is connected to the heart’s left ventricle. It branches in a network of smaller arteries, and those small branches are called arterioles and capillaries. Pulmonary arteries carry oxygen-poor blood from the heart to the lungs, which makes these arteries one of a kind.
But if the plaque builds up on the inner walls of the arteries, they become clogged. Fat, cholesterol, fibrin, cellular waste and other substances are responsible for that.
There are many risk factors of high blood pressure, such as diabetes or smoking, and people who have low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) have a higher risk of having clogged arteries.
